Ingredients:

  • 2 frozen pie crust (or home-made)
  • Strawberry (our your favorite jam)
  • 1 1/4 lbs. apples
  • 1/2 c. grated nuts
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Directions:
Prebake pie crust 10 minutes in 400 oven. Cover bottom with jam and sprinkle with 1/2 the nuts and granulated sugar mixed together. Peel, core and cut apples into 3/4" cubes; stew in a small amount of water till soft; drain and set aside to cool. Whip egg whites and when stiff add powdered sugar. Fold egg whites into stewed apples and cover jam with apple/egg mixture. Cover with top crust and paint with slightly beaten egg white. Sprinkle 1 tbsp granulated sugar over all and bake 30 minutes at 400. Serve warm or cold.

Makes one 9" pie.
