Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Sift together dry ingredients.Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk; stir just until the dough clings together. On a lightly floured board, knead dough gently, about 10-12 strokes. Roll to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a 2-in. round biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Yield 18-20 biscuits.


If Cooking for Two: Freeze biscuits in a plastic storage bag. Then simply defrost as many as needed at a moments notice.
