Ingredients:

1/2 cup soft shortening (part butter)
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1 3/4 cups sifted Gold Medal Flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

Directions:

Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar and egg. Sift together and stir in flour, salt, soda. Blend in nuts. Form into two rolls, 2" in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill overnight. Heat oven to 400* (mod. hot). Cut slices 1/8" thick; place a little apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 mi., until set but not hard.

About 6 doz. cookies.
