Ingredients

  • 1 (4 oz.) pkg. sweet cooking chocolate
  • 5 tablespoons butter or margarine, divided
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions

Melt chocolate and 3 tablespoons butter over low heat, stirring frequently. Set aside to cool. Soften remaining two tablespoons butter. Add cream cheese, creaming until light. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar, beating until fluffy. Stir in 1 egg, 1 tablespoon flour and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Set aside. Beat 2 eggs until lemon colored. Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar, beating until thick. Combine 1/2 cup flour, baking powder, and salt; add to egg mixture, mixing well. Stir in cooled chocolate, 1 tsp. vanilla, almond extract, and nuts. Pour half of chocolate batter into a greased 8-inch pan. Spread with cheese mixture; top with remaining chocolate batter. Cut through mixture in pan with a knife to create a marbled effect. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool; cut into 16 (2 inch) brownies.
