There are several Venetian recipes that contain not only mashed bananas but hard-cooked eggs,pears and dried apricots as well.


  • Matzo meal
  • 1 peeled and cored apple
  • 3 sliced bananas
  • 10 pitted dates
  • 1/4 cup almonds
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
  • the juice and grated rind of 1/2 lemon
  • the juice and grated rind of 1/2 orange
  • 1/2 cup sweet red wine
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • Sugar or honey


Finely chop or put into a blender and blend at medium speed; apple, banana, dates, nuts, and lemon and orange juice and rinds. Transfer the mixture to a bowl. Add wine and cinnamon. The mixture will be rather lose. Add enough matzo meal to achieve the desired consistency. Add sugar or honey as needed.

Serves 10 to 12
