| Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup chopped black walnuts OR English walnuts 2 tablespoons water 1 cup water 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon almond extract 1/8 teaspoon salt 3 eggs Powdered Sugar glaze(recipe follows) 2 tablespoons finely chopped black walnuts OR English walnuts Heat oven to 350 degrees F. 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons milk 1 tablespoon butter OR margarine, softened 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
1. Cut 1/4 cup butter into 1 cup flour; stir in 1/4 cup chopped nuts. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water over mixture; stir until moistened. Round into ball; divide in half. 2. Pat each half into strip, 12x3 inches, on ungreased baking sheet.(Strips should be about 3 inches apart.) 3. Heat 1 cup water and 1/2 cup butter in medium saucepan to rolling boil. Remove from heat; quickly stir in 1 cup flour, the almond extract and salt. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute. Remove from heat. Beat in eggs until smooth and glossy. Divide mixture in half; spread each half evenly over pastry strips. 4. Bake until topping is crisp and brown, about 1 hour; cool. (Topping will shrink and fall, forming the custardy tops of these puffs.) 5. Spread puffs with Powdered Sugar Glaze and sprinkle each puff with 1 tablespoon finely chopped walnuts. Best served warm. Garnish with greens if desired(for Christmas). Powdered Sugar Glaze Mix all ingredients until smooth and spreading consistency. Makes 2 puffs |
