Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbs. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbs. shortening or lard
  • 2/3 cup lukewarm water
  • Fat for frying
  • Honey or sugar and cinnamon

Directions:
Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the shortening or lard until the mixture resembles corn meal. Gradually add the water, stirring with a fork. The dough will be a little crumbly.

Turn onto a floured surface and knead into a smooth ball. Divide the dough in half; let stand 10 minutes. Roll each half into a 12 x 10 inch rectangle. Cut into 2 1/2 inch squares. Don't reroll or patch the dough. Fry a few at a time in deep hot fat (425 degrees) until golden. Fry the scraps. Drain on paper towels. Serve with honey or roll in sugar/cinnamon mixture. Makes approximately 35-40.

unknown-but definitely not on the weight watchers diet plan!
