Ingredients
- This is a copycat version of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. This combination yields enough mix for about 8 cups of dressing. The dry mix will keep for months in an airtight container.
- Dry Mix:
- 1-1/2 tablespoons salt
- 2 teaspoons monosodium glutamate(MSG)
- 2 teaspoons dry parsley flakes
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- For Each 2 Cups of Dressing:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3-1/4 teaspoons Dry MIx
Directions
For Dry Mix:
In a container with a tight-fitting lid, combine salt, monsodium glutamate, parsley, garlic powder, pepper and onion powder. Mix well. Store in an airtight container.
To Prepare 2 cups salad dressing:
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup mayonnaise, 1 cup buttermilk and 3-1/4 teaspoons dry mix. Stir to combine well. Refrigerate, covered, for 24 hours to let flavors blend. Stir well just before serving.
Variations:
Blue cheese:
Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese to 2 cups basic dressing.
Creamy Italian:
Add a dash of cayenne pepper and 1 teaspoon crushed, dried Italian seasoning to 2 cups basic dressing.
Herb:
Add 1 tablespoon chopped chives and 1/2 teaspoon dried, crushed tarragon leaves to 2 cups basic dressing.
