ENERGY BARS Recipe

  American Cookie

Ingredients:
We are a family of Marathoners, Competative Cyclists and Rowers. We snack on these 'Cookies' for a quick pick-up after work outs. Give them a try

1 six oz. can frozen orange juice, thawed but undiluted
1/2 cup Quick oats, uncooked
1 cup mixed dried fruits
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup dates
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 Tbsp. sesame seeds
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
2 cups sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Mix first 8 ingredients.Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg. Mix well. Sift flour and spices together. Add fruit mixture and mix well. Bake in a greased 13X9X2-inch pan in a preheated 325*F. oven for 35 minutes. When cool, cut into bars.
We have been snacking on these long before Power bars were invented.. Hope they work well for you!!
