SPICED PECANS Recipe

  Appetizer

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup golden brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup water
1 tsp salt
2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
4 cups pecan halves

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Butter 2 large baking sheets. Melt 1/4 cup butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add brown sugar, 1/4 cup water, salt and spices; stir until sugar dissolves. Add nuts to sugar mixture and cook until syrup thickly coats nuts, stirring often, about 5 min.

Transfer nuts to prepared sheets. Bake until golden, 10 min. Cool. These can be made 3 days ahead. Store in airtight container at room temperature.
Makes About 4 Cups
