Basic Cookie Dough Recipe

  Cookie

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 T cream
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp soda

Directions:
Mix well butter, sugar and eggs. Stir in cream and vanilla. Sift together and stir in dry ingredients. Dough may be died with food coloring. Chill dough 4-5 hours or overnight. Heat oven to 400 F. Roll out dough a little at a time, keeping the rest chilled. Roll to 1/8" thick on well floured, cloth covered board. Cut out cookies. Bake 6-8 minutes or until golden brown (delicately) on ungreased cookie sheet. Let stand a minute before removing. Decorate if desired.
I make these cookies every year. I sometimes substitute a little confectioner sugar in place of the granulated sugar, not all of it though. I never add the salt. Experiment with thicker cookies. They are harder to bake, but they are easier to handle and they taste good. Don't worry if you overbake a batch of cookies, frosting covers a multitude of sins! Good Luck!
