Ingredients:
1 cup yellow split peas1" piece ginger 2 green chilis 3-4 cloves garlic 2 tbsp. oil 1 onion sliced fine 1 tomato diced 1 tsp cumin powder 1 tsp coriander powder 1/2 tsp cayenne powder salt to taste 1 tbsp. chopped cilantro
Directions:
Boil the peas in 2-3 cups water till soft and mushy, approx. 45 minutes or alternately cook in a pressure cooker. Grind the next 3 ingredients to a paste with a little water. Heat the oil in a heavy pan. Saute the onions till translucent. Add the paste and fry for 5-6 minutes. Add the tomatos and cook till well blended. Add the spices and fry for another minute. Add the cooked peas ( dhal) and salt and cook till thick enough to scoop up as a dip. Garnish with cilantro.You may substitute any other lentil -green or black mung beans will work fine too,
