Bread Pudding from New Orleans Recipe

  American Bread

Ingredients:
1 French bread
1 Quart milk
3 Eggs
2 Cups sugar
2 Tab vanilla
1 Cup raisins
3 Tab Butter

Sauce:
1/4 lb butter
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 tab whiskey or rum

Directions:
For Pudding:
Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Break apart bread and soak in milk. Mash with fingers and add eggs, then add rest of the ingredients. Pour in pudding pan and place in pan with 1 inch of boiling water and bake for 45 minutes.

For Sauce:
In double boiler cook butter and sugar til very hot.Add egg and whip. Remove from heat and chill and then add whiskey or rum. Pour sauce over pudding and serve hot.

Serves 4 - 6
