It's "Naked Stew" because it has NO spices. It is THE favorite stew/soup in our firehouse. Simple ingredients, simple to prepare, and if you want to frou-frou it up, makes some soda bread.
As to the recipe: I urge you to use Canadian Bacon. You can use traditional American bacon, but you'll end up with a saltier dish. The Canadian Bacon makes the pie sweeter than one could imagine.
