Serve this dish within 30 minutes.
Garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice are the main ingredients for this type of salad. Have a glass of orange juice to get rid of the unfavorable smell of garlic (one of the the healthiest ingredients that is less used). |

| Banana flower salad |
Salad |
Thai |
|
Tips
Medium-hot
Serves 4 as part of a Thai meal
Preparation and cooking time: 1 hour
This is a wonderful Thai dish which combines the deliciously rich and creamy flavour of the banana flower with crunchy cashews nuts, the heat of the roasted chilli and all the other ingredients. Banana flowers are actually the buds of the banana plant, which are soaked and shredded for use in salads. They are also available preserved from Asian grocery shops - soak in cold water for 10 minutes and rinse before use.
You can use shreded green pawpaw or carrot for banana flower substition. |
| Couscous Walnut Cherry Salad |
Salad |
Middle Eastern |
|
Tiny couscous grains are made from semolina, the same wheat product that is used in making pasta. Like pasta, it is dried, and has a subtle flavor that adapts well to a variety of flavorings and additions, and it is equally good served hot with a sauce or cold in a salad. For this recipe, use a box of plain couscous, without added seasonings. After a brief sojourn in hot water, it is ready to use. |
| Curry Chicken Salad with Walnuts |
Salad |
---- |
|
A full-flavored salad blended with curry, cumin, Dijon mustard and pepper cultivates a slightly fiery taste. Combine the sweetness of the grapes with the crunchy texture of walnuts for a unique combination of flavors for your palate. Enjoy as a perfect summery fare for a picnic lunch or savory dinner.
Some curry powders pack more punch than others, and the more curry powder you use, the stronger its flavor will be. Start with the smaller amount, knowing you can always add more if it is too mild. |

| ENSALADA NOCHE BUENA - CHRISTMAS EVE SALAD |
Salad |
American |
|
This colorful salad of beets and pomegranate seeds set off by deep green watercress and baby lettuces is a staple of Christmas Eve feasts in Mexico. The optional creamy goat cheese or queso fresco adds a contemporary touch. Although a holiday specialty, this salad is refreshing during any season the ingredients are available. |

| Mrs. Lennon's Indiannapolis Coleslaw |
Salad |
American |
|
Mrs. Lennon made the best coleslaw in town. When asked for her recipe, she gave away her second favorite recipe. To this day, not even her grandchildren know what the original actually contained. This is the closest recipe I can come to to either of her exceptional cole slaw recipes. |

| Panzanella |
Salad |
Italian |
|
Traditionally, this Italian bread salad is made with day-old or older bread. In the past, it was a way for cooks to stretch out the life of bread that was baked just once a week. Day-old bread will work for this recipe, too, but toasted bread, torn into bits, makes for more crunch. Be sure to use your best extra-virgin olive oil and perfectly ripe tomatoes. This salad makes a terrific summer meal. |
