Prune Recipes

This traditional yuletide drink is served warm; dark and spicy it's sure to warm up any gathering or celebration.

We are not vegetarian, but I have made this several times and we loved it. There is a similar recipe in the Dec 1997 issue of Food & Wine for a vegetable tagine.

I cut this out of Sunset years ago because it sounded so good but have never made it. It was somebody's grandmother's recipe from southern Italy.

Sautéing first over high heat and then covered over low heat helps to prevent the chops from turning dry.

Early cookbooks reveal that chicken pie was every bit as popular as roasted turkey for the prinicipal entree at Thanksgiving dinner. Al- though it's hard to believe, some familes even served both. This recipe, with its bizarre inclusion of prunes and currants, nutmeg and cinnamon, has been developed from a very early recipe. Do not be put off by the fruit and spices. Their presence is unobtrusive and they enhance what can be a very pedestrian sauce, turning it into a magnificent, if mysterious, backdrop for the chicken.
